The blurb sounded a little too much like another book I adore so I thought why not? Yowza my book people!
What we have here-it's nothing short of (yea, I'm gonna use this a lot!) fierce!!

Remind you of anything you've read? If not, that's ok, because to me that's where the similarities started and ended. Autumn Blakewood was a great character. Described in the book, by herself, as this frizzy-haired, glasses wearing nobody. Autumn thinks she blends into the background regarding her geek status however, she's inquisitive and loyal. She has an amazing sense of humor and she's not one to go with the flow. Autumn will figure it all out for herself-she wants to form for own opinions of people.

"When I look into his beautiful eyes, all I see is hurt. He looks broken. Beaten.

...It's like he's been crying all day and has been trying to hide it from the world. Like he's been hiding himself."

Hunter Bane is scorching hot ladies! He's tall, dark, HOT! "He's the epitome of a bad boy; cocky, confident fighter, who likes to get girls worked up for no reason." Only very early on we realize...that's not all he is. Hunter is smart, witty, and thinks getting a college degree is important-that studying is important. He is, if nothing else, fiercely loyal. (See what I did there) Hunter would do anything for his family. He is involved in an illegal frat and the reasons for why he is involved will break your heart. He feels as if he must prove himself and this is the only way.

"...You have no idea how ?^!%#&! hard it is to do this. I don't want to be in this $#!), but I am, and I can't change that."

They have this banter between them that starts almost immediately. The push and pull. It's really great at some points kinda funny. Hunter has a nickname for Autumn...it's Leafy. He was witness to something that happened to her and when he first meets her...he begins calling her Leafy. They begin an exchange of helping him study for self-defense training for her. She had an incident walking home from work and Hunter was there to help her out. (I'm being vague...I know) They being this flirty friendship, and you just know there's more there under the surface. You can feel it! The change between them happening...she's still a bit shy and timid but coming out of her shell-he's making her a more independent woman and he doesn't even realize it. And Hunter is still trying to play the 'bad-boy- card. Even though this was NOT a dual POV - much to my dismay mind you - you could still almost hear what he would be saying. He's no good for her-she can do better, they are better off as friends, he just wants her happy.

"Because you're different," he says. "But I can't. I can't do this to you. I can't turn you into something you're not, I already think I'm !(&$$# up, but when I $#%! you up too... God, no."

But it all comes to a point along with the amazing, and different plot!! The mystery plot involving the secret, illegal frat, Hunter's fighting, the drugs...How the crazy twist works with Autumn's best friends - which are colorful secondary characters I must say!!

**I received an ARC for an honest review**

Autumn is a shy, nerdy, book worm that is starting her first year of college. She wants to stay out of sight so no one notices her, but that all goes out the window when she’s walking and comes in contact with a leaf blower!! She is so embarrassed but when her eyes lock with Hunter’s everything seems to fade away.

Hunter is a sexy bad boy who has a reputation of a man-whore and always getting into fights. He hangs around with the wrong crowds, but he also has a sweet vulnerable side.

Autumn and Hunter start to spending time together, she helps him study and he teaches her self defense. Autumn is starting to fall in love with him, but the more she tries to get to know him the more he pushes her away to keep her safe.

Autumn knows Hunter is keeping secrets and she is risking her life by trying to find out what is going on. Drugs, fighting, death, friendship and an almost rape are a few of the obstacles in this roller coaster ride. So when the lies are revealed who is left to pick up the pieces?

This initial entry in the Fierce series is told from nerd-girl Autumn's POV. Autumn is a likeable character. I found her internal struggle to be compelling - the sheltered, bullied girl who wants desperately to fit in but just...can't. Her first day of college, she encounters a Bad Boy in Hunter Bane. For some reason, he keeps engaging her. Though she doesn't understand it, she can't stay away from him, even though her past experience with bullying dictates that she should want to do so. The fact that she pushed her own boundaries to befriend Hunter when he seemed to need it most showed a depth to her character that was unexpected. That she also found herself wanting more from this enigma of a young man confounded Autumn and created adequate internal conflict, which would easily have driven the narrative enough for me to award 3 stars with nothing else going for it. But what set this story apart, what drives it to a 4.5-star from me, was that the external conflict alone would have made for a thrilling read. I won't spoil you, but there are elements of suspense in this story that will have you at the edge of your seat at times.

I'll warn you, this is a very typical New Adult read. Personally, I like New Adult and don't mind some angst or a lot of sex, provided I've been given characters I like. In this case, I got what I wanted and then some. If you read nothing else of this series, read Fierce. You'll fall in love with Bad Boy Hunter Bane, just as Autumn does, swooning when he calls her Leafy and cheering at the end. But this story doesn't end with this book, so keep reading. You'll be glad you did.
